Jhalak Children’s & YA Prize 2023 - shortlist announced!

Welcome back!  We hope you had a great Easter break and managed to find time to
relax with a good book.  If you are looking for your next great read, why not check out the books on this year's Jhalak Children's & YA Prize short list?

The Jhalak Prize celebrates and supports books by British and British resident writers of colour.  Set up by writers Sunny Singh and Nikesh Shukla in 2017, a sister prize, the Jhalak Children's & YA Prize, celebrating children’s & YA novels was launched in 2020.

This year's shortlisted novels are:

• In Our Hands by Lucy Farfort 
• When Our Worlds Collided by Danielle Jawando 
• Mia And The Lightcasters by Janelle McCurdy, ill. Ana Latese 
• Ellie Pillai Is Brown by Christine Pillainayagam 
• Rebel Skies by Ann Sei Lin
• Dadaji’s Paintbrush by Rashmi Sirdeshpande, ill. Ruchi Mhasane 

Two of the shortlisted novels, When Our Worlds Collided (also on this year's Read for Empathy Secondary list) and Mia and the Lightcasters, are available to borrow now from the EPHS Libraries.  The other two YA novels, Ellie Pillai Is Brown and Rebel Skies are on our wish list!
