Diverse Book Awards 2023 - shortlists announced!

Created by The Author School, the Diverse Book Awards highlight the best of diverse voices, novels featuring Black, Asian, Latin American and/or inclusive main characters, published in the UK.

The Awards are divided into three categories, children's, Young Adult and Adult, with eight books shortlisted per category.  The books nominated in the YA category, some of which are available to borrow from the EPHS Libraries, are featured here.

The winners in all categories, including The Readers' Choice Awards will be announced on 25th October at a ceremony to be held at Waterstones Piccadilly.  This event will also see the launch of The Malorie Blackman Impact Award.

First Story Young Writers

We are really excited to be taking part in the fantastic First Story Young Writers programme again this year with our author-in-residence Rachel Seiffert, pictured opposite.  A selected group of Year 9 and 10 students will be attending workshops, entering competitions and participating in a writers festival in March as part of their First Story experience, which is being run as their enrichment option this year.

Rachel Seiffert's debut Booker Prize nominated novel, The Dark Room, is available to borrow from the Upper Library.
