NEW BOOKS LOWER LIBRARY

We now feature new books on the Library's Insta account @ephs_library.  


Most of the books in the EPHS Libraries are new, but below are some recent additions, which are compelling and diverse: 



The Creakers is a magical adventure in a world where all the grown ups disappear



Fans of Brigid Kemmerer fans rejoice, Defy the Night the first in a new trilogy has arrived at the library



Phil Earle’s When the Sky Falls is a brilliant historical story that Mrs Nolan loves




We love the explosive new Soul Series by Chris Bradford, author of the best selling Body Guard and Young Samurai books.  The Soul Hunters is the first book, with Soul Prophecy out in February 2022.  Check out the trailer below:



If you love Disney, these retellings are perfect for you.  Featuring well know characters from your favourite Disney Movies.

The Treehouse series by Andy Griffiths is crazy, imaginative and full of fun - well worth checking!


The Dragon Realm is an action-packed adventure and magic-filled series featuring four children, warrior dragons, daring deeds and infused with humour.


The latest book by Jewell Parker Rhodes Black Brother, Black Brother is set to be just as popular as her last book Ghost Boys




Mrs Nolan loves, loves, loves A Kind of Spark. It's definitely one she thinks everyone should read whatever your age, and whether you're neurodivergent or neurotypical.





Defy the Stars is the first book in a sci-fi romance trilogy filled with planet hopping adventure that comes highly recommended by Ms Peters



There have been some wonderful additions to some popular series we have in the library from RJ Palacio's Wonder to Michelle Paver's Chronicles of Ancient Darkness 



The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie joins our collection of classics printed on dyslexia-friendly cream paper. Or if you're looking for something a bit more modern we have a couple of retellings of brilliant Bronte books also printed on cream paper.



The Rebel of the Sands trilogy by Alwyn Hamilton is a mixture of fantasy, action, and romance. Fans of The Hunger Games will love following Amani's journey from a small town at the end of the desert to member of the rebellion. It also happens to be one of Ms Peters' favourites




A must for any horror fans, Mary's Monster by Lita Judge is part beautiful graphic novel part verse novel and tells the biography of the legendary Mary Shelley 



Good news for Abi Elphinstone fans, the first two books in The Unmapped Chronicles are both available to read at the library!



If you loved The Hate U Give be sure to check out The Black Kids by Christina Hammonds Reed. Set during the LA protests in 1992, this is a coming of age debut that you’re sure to love.


If you love football or were lucky enough to take part in the recent Matt Oldfield virtual author visit, you’ll enjoy these new football hero titles and Matt’s award-winning Unbelievable Football stories


The Wolf Road by Richard Lambert is a poetic and gripping novel about a teenage boy learning to deal with the enormity of loss and grief in new surroundings.  The wolf in the story is both physical and metaphorical. It is a really wonderful read - I loved it!


If you love verse novels, such as those by Kwame Alexander, Elizabeth Acevedo and Sarah Crossan, you'll love Chessboxer by Stephen Davies.  Written as a series of blog posts, it tells the story of Leah Baxter, disillusioned chess genius, who decides to take up chess boxing as a way of dealing with a personal tragedy.  It's an adrenalin packed story about grief and friendship and one that I couldn't put down!

The Tyrant’s Tomb is the latest book in the Trials of Apollo series by the fantastic fantasy author Rick Riordan. The penultimate book in the series following Apollo and his friends is a rollercoaster of a story that will have fans eagerly awaiting the finale.




The Ocean Was Our Sky, a beautiful new novel by Patrick Ness, is a hauntingly lyrical tale and re-imagining of Moby Dick.  




A must read for all secondary school students, I Will Not Be Erased by gal-dem is a collection of thought-provoking essays from young women and non-binary people of colour exploring race, gender, mental health and activism.
